Thyme and Apple Pisco Sour | The Charming Detroiter

So by now you guys have all stocked up on your local cider mills best batches of apple cider, right? I hope so, because you’ll need some of that delicious nectar to make this crazy tasty winter craft cocktail!

Thyme and Apple Pisco Sour: An autumn spin on a classic South American cocktail, these pisco sours feature thyme simple syrup and apple cider.

A few weeks ago we visited our local Blake’s Orchard and Cider Mill. And by local, I mean a 45 minute drive away. But oh boy, was it worth it! The donuts were delicious, the produce incredible, and there was a carnival’s worth of activities to do there, like hay rides, train rides, and a petting zoo.

In this recipe, I highlighted the sweetness of the apple cider by pairing it with savory thyme. The Pisco adds a unique note to the drink, and the lemon juice finishes it off with some tartness. The best part is that you can use the remainder of the thyme from your herb garden (that’s about to be frozen over for the winter, unfortunately…) to make a big batch of this savory thyme simple syrup. It goes really well in all sorts of drinks, especially with bourbon, and lasts for about a month in the refrigerator (or longer if you are adventurous…)

Ingredients
  1. 1 1/2 oz. Pisco (a grape spirit)
  2. 1 oz. apple cider
  3. 1/2 oz. thyme simple syrup (recipe below)
  4. 1/2 lemon, juiced
For thyme simple syrup
  1. 1 cup sugar
  2. 1 cup water
  3. 1 bunch thyme sprigs
To make simple syrup
  1. Combine sugar and water in a small saucepan. Bring to a gentle boil and stir until sugar is dissolved. Remove pan from heat and add the thyme sprigs. Cover and let steep for 10 minutes. Remove thyme sprigs and strain into a glass container for storage. Store syrup in the refrigerator for up to 6 weeks.
For cocktail
  1. Fill a champagne coupe with ice and cold water. Set aside. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Combine Pisco, apple cider, thyme simple syrup and juice of half a lemon in the shaker. Screw on the lid and shake for 30-45 seconds. Empty the ice water from the champagne coupe. Strain the contents of the cocktail shaker into the chilled champagne coupe and serve.

Love this! I just got back from Peru and I have a couple bottles of pisco that I am dying to try different kinds of pisco sours with. I love the thyme apple combo, so this one is going on the list for sure. Thanks!
