Brown leather summer sandals are paired with a flowing navy striped skirt for summertime day date perfection!

Aren’t day dates the best? Last weekend the hubby and I headed to the Detroit Zoo for a lovely morning in the sun! I think we are so blessed to have such a beautiful zoo by us. If you have never been to the Detroit area yet, or if you have been here and haven’t yet visited our zoo, I urge you to check it out! Some of my favorite highlights are:

• the new penguin house! It’s beautiful and new, and gives you a lot of viewing places to see the penguins!
• the polar bear exhibit, which unfortunately was under construction when we visited, but features a glass tunnel under the water through which you can watch the polar bears and seals swimming around overhead. So cute!
• all of the beautiful gardens. It’s sometimes easy to overlook this fact as the animals are really the star, but if you look around you are bound to find oodles and oodles of beautiful flowers!

For our trip, I wore my new favorite skirt: this striped navy and white skirt from J.Crew Factory! I love this skirt because of the elastic waistband and the fact that it is the perfect length for a day out on the town, but also for work. I have a real things for stripes, apparently, as I recently discovered while reorganizing my closet, and so I’m not surprised at how much I loved this piece!

For the zoo, I paired the skirt with a simple white t-shirt, but this skirt could easily be dressed up with some heels and an ivory or pastel colored blouse!

Can we talk about these huarache sandals from J.Crew also? I originally found these at the J.Crew Factory store at the outlet mall near us last summer, and I was completely obsessed. I practically wore them all summer, no joke! They are easy to break-in and are very comfortable, and are an effortless addition to almost any summer or spring outfit. But I started to get kind of sad as I worried they might stretch out too much in the future since I was wearing them so much, just based on the nature of the style of the shoe (with all those tiny leather straps!). I was bummed I hadn’t bought a second backup pair or a softener for leather to make the sandals look their best.

Lo and behold this spring rolls around and I see these sandals popping up again in the same brown color! I pulled the trigger as soon as a good sale came up, and am .so happy I have a second pair for future summers! (P.S. My original pair is still going strong; after wearing them frequently last summer, I have been wearing them at least 2-3 times a week for the past month also without any issues so far!)
