General Policy
The Charming Detroiter is a personal blog written by me, Sarah, at https://thecharmingdetroiter.com. The purpose of this blog is to sharing my writing, photography, and recipes with my readers. The views and opinions I share here are solely my own. This blog does accept cash advertising, sponsorship, paid-for-click advertising, and other forms of payment. These types of compensations do not and never will affect the content of my blog.
Furthermore, while I am a medical doctor and I from time-to-time may provide opinions and information on the health content of certain foods, ingredients, or recipes, this is not a substitute for medical advice from your own physician. What information is collected?
I may collect the following information:

Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

I require this information to understand your needs and provide you with a better service, and in particular for the following reasons:

How long is my information retained for?
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

Where do you send my data?

In the event that you sign up for our email list through an opt-in, email and name data will be sent to MailChimp, which is the application we use for sending out our email newsletter.

Privacy is very important to me, and I will never share your contact information (including name, e-mail address, etc.) with any other third party.
How do you use cookies on this blog?
A cookie is a small file which asks permission to be placed on your computer’s hard drive. Once you agree, the file is added and the cookie helps analyze web traffic or lets you know when you visit a particular site. Cookies allow web applications to respond to you as an individual. The web application can tailor its operations to your needs, likes and dislikes by gathering and remembering information about your preferences.
I use traffic log cookies to identify which pages are being used. This helps me analyze data about web page traffic and improve our website in order to tailor it to customer needs. I only use this information for statistical analysis purposes and then the data is removed from the system.
