World Nutella Day: Nutella Puppy Chow!

Today is a glorious day. A wondrous day! That’s right, folks, it’s World Nutella Day! And to celebrate this deliciously sweet hazelnut concoction, I’ve made a twist on a favorite camp favorite: Nutella puppy chow!

Nutella is a hazelnut cocoa spread that was created in the 1960’s by the Italian company Ferrero. This delicious spread was originally sold in solid form before the Ferrero company remarketed it into the creamier form that we all know today – and it was an instance success across Europe, of course! Today I’ve taken a classic puppy chow recipe and substituted in this delicious treat for the chocolate in the recipe. The result is an even more delicious depth of flavor!

Ingredients
  1. ½ cup chocolate chips
  2. 1 cup Nutella hazelnut spread
  3. ¼ cup unsalted butter
  4. 2-3 tbsp. milk
  5. ¼ tsp. vanilla extract
  6. 6 cups Chex cereal
  7. 1 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
  1. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt chocolate chips, Nutella, and butter on medium heat in the microwave or on a double boiler on the stove. Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract. If mixture clumps together, add a little bit of milk as needed and stir until combined.
  2. To a large plastic bag, add Chex cereal and chocolate Nutella mixture. Seal bag and shake until cereal is coated in chocolate mixture. Add powdered sugar to the bag and seal. Once again shake until cereal is coated with powdered sugar. Spread puppy chow onto a parchment paper-lined baking sheet in one layer and allow to come to room temperature.
