Here it is: our master bedroom reveal! I’m sharing before and after photos and linking everything we used in here, and giving you the down-low about the last couple of projects we have left for this space!
Happy Wednesday, friends! So glad you joined me today – it’s reveal day! These are one of my favorite types of posts to do, where I get to show you before and after photos of spaces. Today’s digs? Our master bedroom!

before…
Before the bedroom was pretty blah! First of all, it had an awful lighting situation. Four gold sconces straight out of 80’s, and no overhead lighting. Just bizarre!
…after!
One of the first things we did was have an electrician come in and remove the sconces and install an overhead chandelier in the middle of the vaulted ceiling. The space was just screaming for this adjustment, and I think our chandelier (slightly reminiscent of a Game of Thrones hall?) fills out the space nicely.
The second major change was new furniture. We finally got to swap out our old queen bed for a nice king sized bed – with a Tempurpedic mattress. I was doubtful about how much of a difference upgrading to such an expensive mattress would make in my sleep – but boy was I wrong. I sleep like a baby now (except since we’ve had our baby, of course 😀 ), and their TEMPUR-breeze style keeps us nice and cool at night! In addition to the bed, we added some new nightstands, plants, and a dresser that I’ve been coveting since the old house!
New curtains also added a sophisticated edge to the room. I chose to do two layers of curtains, with a rich charcoal velvet base paired with a breezy somewhat translucent second linen layer that allows lots of natural light in through the large sliding door that spans the length of the room.
Another major change we made was in the form of removing the popcorn ceilings and having them finished, as well as painting the walls. In our old house, I went for a dark navy blue to give a quiet, dark and calming vibe to the space. This time around, I wanted to switch things up and keep it light and bright, and hence I chose Mountain Peak White by Benjamin Moore. Seriously in love with how crisp this color looks! The shiplap wall is painted the same white, and then all of the trim is Simply White by Benjamin Moore.
The last big transformation in this space was the shiplap wall! I love love love this feature, and it was something I had my heart set on ever since I saw this inspo photo on Houzz. I love how modern it looks and how painting it the same color allows it to tie in seamlessly with the rest of the room. So serene and the perfect modern farmhouse touch!
so, what’s next?
We have two more projects in here! Not including our master bathroom and dressing room, which we will be sure to share when we renovate those down the road.
- First: the room contains a slightly-awkward alcove where the dog crates currently are, and later this year we plan to install built-in closet units to give us even more storage for clothing and accessories. Stay tuned, I have my eye on some cool ideas and can’t wait to try out some new brands!
- Second: we will eventually be putting bamboo floors in the whole house, including the second floor, so the final step will be installation of those floors (probably 2-4 years down the road) with addition of an area rug.
So, stay tuned for those changes in the future, and let me know below: which update is your favorite of this space?
