Happy Wednesday, friends! Today’s post is all about my tips for getting your hair back to normal after giving birth. I really struggled with my postpartum hair being dry, coarse, and knotted constantly – especially after each washing. I scoured the web for tips on how to get it back to normal, even coming across some women in a forum who had said cutting it off and starting from scratch was their only solution. I was determined to not have to do that, as I’ve been growing my hair out long for years now, and that was just not an ideal solution for me. I should be glad that my hair didn’t fall out in clumps or start to thin badly, which can happen to women as well as men, in fact, some people will turn to procedures like neograft to get their hair back to the way they used to have it as it can cause a lot of shame and upset to see bald spots and there is nothing they can do to stop it. Hopefully, that hasn’t happened to you, but if it has, know that you are not alone and we are in this together, there is support out there for your hair you’ve just got to find it through your research. Some friends of friends suggested that I try out salon products for my hair, and that’s when I began exploring several brands to see which could help my hair better. Luckily, I have found several products that have transformed my hair drastically, and today I wanted to share those with you!

I’m hopeful that this information may be useful to any other women out there who are postpartum and struggling with the same postpartum hair issues as I did! It may also be a good idea to get in touch with a barber to help you learn more about your hair. If you’re not sure where to find an experienced barber, try using keywords like “barber shop near me” so that you know where to go for your hair appointments.

step 1: regular conditioner deep conditioner

Step one was to replace my regular conditioner with a deep conditioner. And I’ve never looked back 😀 At the recommendation of my hair dresser, I started using the Paul Mitchell Super Charged Moisturizer treatment as my conditioner each time I wash my hair, and this was a game changer. I wash my hair about 2-3 times a week (if I wash it every time I shower, it becomes very dry), and so I started using this product in place of my normal conditioner and it has worked wonders to start hydrating my hair again after the pregnancy.

step 2: the olaplex system!

I’ve written and spoken about this system several times before, and for good reason: it works! These products are a little on the pricier side, but I was desperate and had read a lot of good reviews on them. Luckily the price tag is majorly worth it: adding step 3 (hair perfector, which is a DEEP deep conditioner), step 6 (bond smoother, which helps smooth frizz and repair damage to hair), and step 7 (bonding oil, which helps to strengthen while hydrating the hair) has really improved the strength and texture of my hair overall.

step 3: use an argan oil product

The last step I do now after showering is to throw on an argan oil styling cream into my hair before drying. You can look for any type of argan that you prefer (I also use an argan oil shampoo!). The pomade I use is sold out now (so sad!) but this is a similar product. Argan oil is known for helping to lengthen, strengthen, and thicken locks, and this product doubles as a styling pomade as well!
