Spring outdoor rugs are a must-have for the warm weather seasons, and they are way easier to maintain than you would think! Sharing my favorites today on the blog!
Happy Friday, friends! If you saw my last post, we recently updated the decor on our outdoor deck for a little 2022 season refresh! Today I thought I’d share with you one of my favorite aspects of our outdoor spaces: spring outdoor rugs!
I have been using rugs in our outdoor spaces since about 2013/2014 when we put one of the deck at our old house. I was very hesitant at first – won’t the rain ruin it? Won’t it get moldy and dirty? The answer is that outdoor rugs are super easy to maintain with just a little bit of work!
First, of course, purchase only a rug made for outdoor spaces. I have never had any issues with the rain on my outdoor rugs and have never had any mold issues. They do tend to take a little while to dry out after a rainstorm of course, compared to the painted deck, so keep that in mind of course.
Second, they do get dirty. Obviously – the are outside! We power wash our outdoor rugs once per year, usually in the fall. Then I let it air dry really well by hanging it over the deck side railing. Once dry, I roll it up and secure it using some duck tape or painters tape and store it either in the garage or underneath our outdoor dining table, since we have a large storage tarp for that table so everything underneath it is well protected from the elements during the winter.
There are so many good reasons to have an outdoor rug. I absolutely love how they instantly add that “cozy factor” to any outdoor space, and they’re of course more comfortable to walk around on. They can be used for delineating different spaces such as dining and entertaining spaces on a deck or patio, and I like that I don’t have to worry as much about our outdoor chairs damaging the deck paint.
