Summer is upon us, my friends! And what better way to honor it than with a cocktail that is a true celebration of all that is fresh and lovely about summer? Today’s recipe is just that!

I have been wanting to make a bourbon lemonade cocktail for some time now, because, bourbon. lemonade. why not? And when we recently planted new flowers in a section of our front yard, including lavender, I thought that would be the perfect floral and unique addition! I also wanted to give it some freshness, and opted for some beautifully tart strawberries (i.e. the quintessential summer fruit – amiright?). So if you are looking for a fresh new cocktail for these lazy summer days, then be sure to try my lavender strawberry bourbon lemonade!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 oz lavender simple syrup recipe below
  • 1 strawberry hulled and quartered
  • 2 ounces bourbon
  • 2 ounces of your favorite lemonade
  • 1 strawberry (for garnish)

For simple syrup:

  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon dried lavender
  • 2-3 drops lavender food coloring optional

Instructions

For simple syrup:

  1. Heat sugar and water in a small saucepan over medium heat and stir occasionally until the sugar has dissolved. Remove from heat, add lavender, and allow to step for 10 minutes. Strain the lavender and transfer lavender simple syrup to an airtight container. If you would like it to be purple in color, add the food coloring at this point and stir to combine. Cool to room temperature before using.

For cocktail:

  1. In the bottom of a tumbler, muddle simple syrup with strawberry until juices are released, about 10-15 seconds. Add bourbon and lemonade and fill tumbler with ice. Shake for about 25-30 seconds, then strain into a cocktail glass filled with ice cubes. Garnish with second strawberry.
