Hey, friends! I’m so excited to share todays post with y’all: I’m sharing my super easy tips to keep towels white – sparkly white! I have tried a number of products over the years as I don’t like using bleach for my whites (or in my washing machine in general), and so I’ve finally found the perfect combination of products that keep my towels and sheets nice and white!

step 1: choose good products!

One of the most important steps! (All three steps are key, though 😀 ) I highly recommend splurging on something as functional as your regular bath/hand towels and sheets. Think about it: you use these every day. You want something that is high quality that is going to hold up well! You should ideally replace your sheets and towels every 2-3 years, and we try and extend this lifetime buy buying extra. We have extra hand towels and oversized bath towels so they aren’t used as frequently, and we also have two sets of sheets for our bed so we can also switch these out fairly frequently. I swear by Boll and Branch for both towels and sheets, after years of trying plenty of different brands! Their Signature Hemmed Sheet Set is the perfect base for any bed. We prefer to have a larger oversized bath towel, so we opted for their Bath Sheets size towel. A great runner up at a slightly lower price point is the Nordstrom brand hydrocotton towels, which we have in some of our guest bathrooms.

step 2: use this whites detergent!

After several tries, I finally discovered The Laundress’s whites detergent, which is a plant-based environmentally friendly alternative to bleach. I have always hesitated to put bleach in my washing machine ever, or use it in general on clothing even in a separate bucket before washing, because I worry about residual bleach getting left in the washing machine and ruining other subsequent loads of laundry. I also don’t like how harsh bleach is, and the smell is just ugh. Enter The Laundress’s whites detergent! This plant-derived formula helps give a fresh bright white look to towels, sheets, and other loads of white laundry and I was incredibly impressed with how effective this alternative was! I also love that it leaves my whites smelling laundry fresh, not like it just came out of a chemical bath 😀

step 3: the all purpose bleach alternative

The best trick I’ve found is to use this all purpose bleach alternative powder alongside the whites detergent. This is a high power alternative to traditional chlorine bleach, and similarly to the detergent above it leaves your laundry feeling fresh and beautiful smelling. The combination of these two products in each load of white laundry has been the best option I’ve found so far for how to keep towels white and beautifully fresh! Another aspect of The Laundress that I love is that they do not test products on animals and they use 100% recycled plastic packaging. Win, win!
