Five Fundamental Spring Work Outfits

If you’re like me, you might find transitioning your wardrobe in between seasons to be somewhat of a challenge. I’m sometimes at a loss for what to wear when the weather is turning from winter into spring: will it be warm enough for this skirt, or is that sweater enough for how chilly it is the next day? Add to that the weekday challenge of finding cute, work-appropriate outfits (and for me, that means something that works underneath a physician’s white coat), and sometimes it can be overwhelming.

I’ve found that the key to mastering these transitions in the seasons is layering appropriately. Here I have compiled five beautiful work outfits that are perfect for the spring months. My advice is to soak in these gorgeous photos while appreciating the bigger picture: what pieces are best to pair together for a great, layered, spring look. Enjoy!

1. Gingham Shirt + Neutral Pant + Animal Print Flats

Gingham and animal print. These bold patterns can be paired together for work if you use them with neutrals. Here, Jean from Extra Petite pairs a navy and white gingham button down with a classic black skinny work pant. In fact, these are one of my favorite wardrobe staples: the Sloan pant from Banana Republic. They come in a multitude of different colors and lengths and are perfect for pairing with work outfits or for a classy night on the town. Take a classic trench coat with you for chillier days, or bring a blazer to wear at work (especially if your office likes to blast the AC!).

2. Chambray + Polka Dot Skirt

This is such a simple look to put together but it can really make a statement while still being work appropriate! Pair a simple chambray shirt with a bold patterned pencil skirt, such as polka dots or even a floral print. Add some neutral colored sandals (or flats if your work place requires that toes be covered), throw your hair up in a quick bun, and you’re all ready for work! You could also add some cute tights if it is chillier out on a given day.

3. Neutrals on Neutrals

Another way to dress up your outfit while still keeping it workplace appropriate is to layer neutrals. Here, Annie of Stylish Petite has layered a neutral camel colored skirt with a layering of a button down shirt and sweater, all in the same neutral taupe tones. Her “pop” is a black leather handbag. This is great for the spring because you can always remove the sweater if it gets too warm outside (or in your office!).

4. Khaki Skirt + Black

You can’t go wrong with a khaki skirt in the spring: it is the perfect business casual piece. This beautiful A-line skirt gives a flirty yet still professional look because of the length. Pair with a dark colored top, a statement necklace and cute kitten heels for the office. Khaki pencil skirts also work really well for a business casual spring look. Bring a cute black trench coat for cooler days!

5. Boyfriend Cardigan + Button Down + Khakis

Boyfriend cardigans are my new favorite thing. It’s honestly been so hard not to snatch up everyone I’ve seen on eBay! They are a great layering tool when paired with the right pieces: pencil skirts or skinny pants work perfectly. The best part is that they allow for layering and staying cozy at work while not looking as formal as a blazer might seem. I love to pair a colorful boyfriend cardigan with a white button down shirt and khakis, or use a more neutral cardigan color like black and pair with a patterned button down. Throw on a belt and some low kitten heels and you are all set!
