10 Everyday Random Acts of Kindness

It doesn’t have to be the holidays to help others in need! Today I’m sharing 10 everyday random acts of kindness to bring you into the new year!

I spent the last six days with my husband and his family on the island of Kauai in Hawaii. If I could pick just three words to describe the trip, they would be Delicious. Rainy. And delicious.

Through and through, the food was phenomenal. We had maybe one so-called meal the whole trip, which is pretty good for having no knowledge of where the good food is on the island! Between shrimp stations and food trucks, acai bowls and my first try at kombucha (my new fav, incidentally), and all the fresh local fruit we can get our hands on, I don’t think we tried a single place I wouldn’t try again, or recommend to a friend. After all of these food bingeing trips, I may try to make a few at home, especially now that I know that there are various ways to make kombucha. I’ll probably have to research a bit on “what is a kombucha scoby and how can I make one?“, nevertheless, if it turns out well, I may have hit a jackpot.

Even beyond all the delicious food, the people on this island are so friendly! I guess this must be what they call the “island life,” with it’s slow-paced, happy-go-lucky attitude. And it got me thinking that although we are here only for these six days and although so many of us find time to lend a helping hand at the holidays, why does it have to stop there? I think we should ring in the new year with a resolution for random acts of kindness. To get y’all thinking, here are some ideas!

1. Talk to that shy person who is sitting by themselves at a party.

2. Leave your next restaurant server the biggest tip you can afford.

3. Send a postcard to ill children who love to receive mail.

4. When everyone around you is gossiping, be the one to butt in with something nice.

5. Use Amazon Smile to donate money to your favorite US nonprofit organization.

6. Do chores for your family that you don’t normally do.

7. Take our your neighbors trash bins and recycle bins on trash day – especially that elderly neighbor down the block.

8. Spend time with someone at a local nursing home who might not normally get visitors.

9. Call a family member you haven’t talked to in a while – just because!

10. Put coins in expired parking meters.
